How do you make a green pc?

First thing you need to do is download a Linux ISO and burn it to a CD. Some companies even give it out for free such as Ubuntu. Ubuntu is easy to install yet simple enough to use. You can even download a 'Live' version, this is a CD-ROM that you boot the compuer up with to see if you like. No data will be destroy with the live version. Look on the right of this page for Linux distributions.

Note
The safest way to handle hard drives is to drill holes in to the hard drive thus destroying the drive. Hard drives are typically inexpensive to replace.

Where do old computers go?

To make a point simple, the landfill. Did you know your old computer has a life even thoughit can't run the latest software? Think about this, Windows operating system controls the PC market. I am not saying don't buy a computer because of Windows but to recycle your computer by installing a Linux distribution. The best part is that it is free. That is right this is not a misprint. Linux is free and so are alot of programs. There is even an office type program that is feature rich.

What can you do?

If you really don't want to venture to a computer that runs Linux or just don't need more than one computer, you can donate the computer to school districts to give to needy students. Keep in mind though that banking, credit card numbers or any other personal data can be recovered with the right software. Look on the right of this page for a link to destroy data on a hard drive.
